Beginning of NHL
The National Hurling League commenced on 27th September 1925 and concluded on 16th May 1926. It featured 7 groups of teams representing Dublin, Cork, Galway, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, and Tipperary. The competition followed a six-game single round-robin format. At the culmination of the group stage, the top two teams advanced to compete in the final match. The performances of the teams in the National Hurling League were closely observed and analyzed.
Following a grueling season filled with intense competition, Cork emerged triumphant in the 1925-26 league, ultimately clinching the championship title. Start of these Seasons
The league’s season begins in January and continues through March. Over this period, each team in the league has the opportunity to face every other team once, ensuring a fair and competitive environment. Division 1 of the league is made up of twelve primary hurling teams, each of which is further divided into two divisions, with six teams in each division.
Once the regular season comes to an end, the top four teams with the best records in each division will advance to the knockout stage of the National Hurling League. After the conclusion of the knockout stage, the team emerging victorious in Division 1 will receive the prestigious Dr. Croke Cup as a symbol of their achievement and will be celebrated as the champions of the league.
